Be A Pushy Job Seeker
It’s very frustrating when you have been for an interview – especially if you loved the job – but you don’t get a quick response from the employer.
Unfortunately your work is not over when you leave the interview – in fact it is only just beginning. You must not sit back and wait to hear – you need to be proactive
KNOW THE PROCESS
At the interview make sure you ask what the next step will be and when you should expect to hear back – be in the know
BE PUSHY
Follow up any interview you have attended, it shows you are keen and really want the position, but don’t appear desperate – no one wants to employ someone too needy
KNOW WHO TO CHASE
Make sure you know the names and titles of the people who interviewed you – ideally try to get each persons business card at the interview – that way you know who to contact
SEND A THANK YOU
It’s always a good idea to send a “thank you” email, don’t be afraid in this email to tell the interviewer how much you liked the job – everyone loves someone who is polite
CHASE YOUR AGENCY
If you have been submitted for the role by an Agency make sure you tell them how much you want the role and how keen you are – chase them every day – its their job to know the outcome
SORT YOUR REFERENCES
If you think you have a good chance of getting the job this may be the time to approach your referees to warn them they may be approached soon – be optimistic
DON’T STOP LOOKING
Even if you feel confident that you will get the job continue looking at other opportunities, it is never wise to put all your eggs in one basket – you never know something better could be out there
USE BLACKMAIL
It is fair game to use other jobs offers as leverage, tell the employer you have another job offer but would prefer theirs – it’s perfectly legal to do this
DON’T BURN BRIDGES
Even if you don’t get the job offer, be nice, you never know another role may come up in the organisation which is more suitable for you – keep all doors open
Happy job hunting
