Make your next interview a winner
In order to get an offer of employment you must make a good impression during your job interview. Certain skills will help you succeed during an interview, these include communication skills and professionalism. The more you understand about interview skills, the better prepared you will be for your next interview. Here are some skills you need in order to make your interview a winner:
Skill 1 = Research
Before you go to an interview, its important to spend time researching both the Company and the position you are applying for. Check out the Companies website, google the Company for any information available and look at the Companies social media. Read the job description carefully and research the job title in general to get a broad idea of what’s expected and typical duties in that position.
Skill 2 = Preparation
You should never go into an interview unprepared. Doing so will reflect negatively on you. Set aside some time the day before the interview to-read the job description and understand what duties will be involved. Think about questions you will want to ask and also consider your answers to questions you may be asked, particularly why you left or are leaving your current/last job. Finally re-read your CV as this is what you will be questioned on.
Skill 3 = Punctuality
When attending an interview make sure you arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled interview time. No earlier and no later. Punctuality is an important trait that employers value and by getting to an interview in a timely manner you are demonstrating how punctual you would be on a daily basis if you were offered the job.
Step 4 = Professionalism
There are several aspects that go into professionalism and all of them are important when attending a job interview. To begin with your appearance should be smart, presentable and business like. When you meet the person who is going to interview you make sure you introduce yourself property and shake their hand. Finally be attentive and listen to what you are being told.
Step 5 = Communication
Good communication skills are crucial during the interview process, this includes written, verbal and non-verbal communication. Match your communication style to the person who is interviewing you. For example if they are business like – be business like, if they are relaxed and casual – be relaxed and casual. Finally remember that your body language is also really, really important. So no crossed arms, make good eye contact, sit up straight and always appear attentive.
Step 6 = Listening
Listening skills are another important component to a successful interview experience. It’s easy to listen to a person and while doing so to think to yourself how you’ll respond. While this may seem a good idea it can actually prevent you from listening properly. You should also not be afraid to ask for clarification if you don’t understand something that has been said.
Step 8 = Confidence
Confidence has a significant impact on how you’re perceived in an interview. Arrive at the interview ready to discuss your experience, accomplishments and abilities in a confident way that conveys your belief in yourself to perform the duties of the position you applied for. Work to exude a balanced sense of confidence rather that simply boasting about your qualifications.
Step 9 = Showing interest
It is important to convey your genuine interest in the position during a job interview. If you give off a sense of disinterest or apathy the person who is interviewing you may think you don’t truly want the position or care about the outcome of the interview. Work to show a passion for your career and your ability to complete the duties of the job.
Step 10 = Follow – up
Following up soon after an interview is considered crucial by many employers. A simple thank – you email can go a long way to show the person who interviewed you that you are genuinely interested in the position and are grateful for their time. Try to send an email on the day of the interview or the next day at the latest.
Please believe me if you follow these really simple steps then a job offer will come your way really, really quickly.
Good luck.
