New Year Career Resolutions

Whether you’re stuck in a dead end job, trying to get a promotion or simply hate your boss you may decide that the New Year is the perfect time to start looking for a new role. Whatever your situation, the steps listed below will help fuel your determination and ensure you achieve your 2017 career goals.

Update your CV

Updating our CV is something we all put off doing for as long as possible, but its great place to start when it comes to starting your job search. Get a friend or family member to proof read it once you’ve finished and take on-board any advice they give you – if they notice anything dodgy a recruiter will too!

Integrity and trustworthiness are qualities that are essential in the workplace…

Set a realistic goal

Whether you’re looking for a new job or simply looking to progress in your current Company the first thing you’ll need to do is set yourself a goal – make sure it’s realistic though! Identify what kind of role you want and what kind of Company you want to work for – don’t waste your time applying for jobs you’re not 100% interested in or qualified for – you’ll only end up unhappy again.

Sort out your social media presence

If you’ve never taken the time out to sort through your social media accounts and get rid of any incriminating photos/status then this is the perfect time to do it. Many employers check candidate’s social media accounts before offering them an interview never mind a job so you should definitely check what information they’ll be able to find out about you.

Start your job search

These days there are so many platforms available to help you find a new job so it’s important to make the most of them all! Start your search online and complete new applications on a daily basis. You should also register with as many Recruitment Agencies as possible – they get new roles in everyday and may be able to match you up with something even when you’re too busy to search yourself. You should also create a list of the career webpages of any Companies you are interested in – this will allow you to quickly check their available vacancies on a regular basis.

Don’t let failures get you down

Don’t let a bad interview in January get you down for the rest of the year – learn from your mistakes and then move on – there’s plenty more opportunities out there! Most importantly don’t give up, stick at it and eventually you’ll land yourself the perfect job.

Make your career goals known

Make sure your current management team know your long term career goals – if they know you have high aspirations and don’t want to lose you it’s very likely they’ll offer or groom you promotion!
